Edwin Holgate at the Glenbow Museum, Calgary

The Bathers

This major retrospective devoted to Edwin Holgate (1892-1977), a central figure in Montreal’s art community and in the history of Canadian art, features more than 170 works, a selection of paintings, drawings, watercolours, prints, book illustrations and archival photographs. Best known for his portraits and nude studies, Holgate also created landscapes.

In addition, he was a master of wood engraving. Well-known masterpieces and unpublished works from public and private collections are assembled for the first time since the artist’s death.

The exhibition Edwin Holgate is organized by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and is presented in the Michal and Renata Horstein Pavilion from May 26 to October 2, 2005.
